10 Times WWE Completely Buried Ring Of Honor World Champions
2. Stupid Punt
CM Punk's first run with WWE's World Heavyweight Title felt more like warning to anybody that dared to try and break into the double-locked full time main event scene marshalled by Triple H, John Cena, Batista and Randy Orton than it did a celebration of the 'Straight Edge Superstar's myriad of talents.
The first ever babyface to cash in Money In The Bank, Punk was then positioned as being lucky rather than good in a host of largely uninteresting title defences that, not coincidentally, never actually main evented pay-per-views.
In fact, the only time he was actually scheduled to close the show, he was literally booted out of the match, and out of a title match he was supposed to be the key component of!
Unforgiven 2008 was built around the 'Scramble' match, a convoluted but bizarrely entertaining concept that saw five performers chase pinfalls over a strict time limit, with the last man on top claiming the title they were fighting for.
Punk never got to experience the match, thanks to a Randy Orton pre-match punt that hoofed him clean out of the match before he could even try and put up a defence of his title. It was a humbling and ludicrous way for a babyface to drop a title, made worse by the fact that it took him nearly three years and a heel turn to even try and attempt redemption.
