8. Roddy Piper (2006)

The late "Rowdy" Roddy Piper is one of the most captivating and enduring Superstars in wrestling history. His promos alone solidified his status as a legend while his in-ring performances were filled the ferocity and passion of a lunatic. He was always entertaining and a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame. In 2006, though, it was proven that not even Piper could make everything look good. That year, Hot Rod returned to WWE to team with Ric Flair and defeat The Spirit Squad for the World Tag Team titles. That's right; two over-the-hill competitors, whose prime was some two decades earlier, defeated bright young stars for titles that they had beaten Kane and Big Show to obtain. WWE was indirectly telling us that two OLD veterans were better than integral parts of the roster. For as great as Piper was earlier in his career, he looked every bit his age as he struggled through each title defense. There was very little he could do, leading to him serving as the punching bag for the opposition. By the time Edge and Randy Orton came along and put the title reign of Piper and Flair out of its misery, fans were relieved that they could again remember the former Intercontinental Champion for how great he was rather than watching him try to get by at his advance age, against stars 20 and 30 years his senior.
