10 Times WWE Cruelly Teased What We Really Wanted
3. The Two Biggest Stars In The Game Colliding On The Grandest Stage
After years of dominating their own companies, building reputations as the two biggest stars in the game, Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan finally found themselves under the same roof in 1991.
It felt like only a matter of time before the two juggernauts collided in the middle of the ring. Seemingly setting their eventual programme in motion during a confrontation on Paul Bearer’s Funeral Parlor talk show in November, Flair would cost Hogan his WWE Championship against The Undertaker at Survivor Series.
The titans then locked eyes and began to brawl during the Royal Rumble event soon after, but not even a Flair WWE title win in the 30-man contest could guarantee this showdown for the ages.
Instead, after trialing a match between the pair on the house show circuit a few times and bringing in lacklustre ticket sales from said events, Flair was thrown into a match with Randy Savage at WrestleMania VIII. Hogan would then meet Sid Justice in the second part of the double main event, leaving us all wondering how such a monumental sure-fire classic had been passed up on at a time when all the stars seemed to be perfectly aligned.
