10 Times WWE Pulled The Trigger (When You Least Expected It)
10. Dean Ambrose's Heel Turn (Monday Night Raw, 2018)
When Dean Ambrose finally made his long awaited return to WWE in August of 2018, fans were already fantasy booking exactly how he could run roughshod over an unsuspecting roster.
Yet, his eventual return didn't really go to plan and 12 months down the line he would find himself calling Tony Khan's AEW home.
But let's rewind a little bit to the moment when Ambrose generated his last significant reaction inside a WWE ring.
When Roman Reigns devastatingly relinquished his hard-earned Universal Championship due to his impending battle with leukaemia, fans were obviously left shell-shocked and the thought of anymore wretched twists being added to this already torrid night seemed unlikely.
Yet, this is WWE and in typically opportunistic fashion, McMahon sensed that this would be the perfect moment to feed a heel Ambrose to the emotional crowd. Ambrose would comply and performed a curve-ball Dirty Deeds on the other half of the newly crowned Raw Tag Team Champions, Seth Rollins, producing a toxic roar from a p*ssed off WWE Universe.
Shocking as the turn was, it didn't lead to a programme of note between the two and produced a calamitous inoculation skit that acted as the final nail in Ambrose's WWE coffin.
