When Drew McIntyre first started using his 'Chosen One' gimmick in 2009, he was even endorsed on television by none other than Vincent Kennedy McMahon. This was designed to put McIntyre over as the real deal, and announcers even regularly stated that Drew would be a future WWE Champion some day. That would never happen, although he did hold the Intercontinental Title on one occasion. At the TLC Pay-Per-View in December, 2009, the Scotsman defeated John Morrison to bag the belt. This was in the middle of a big push by WWE to establish McIntyre as a top star on the Smackdown brand, but things would fall apart shortly afterwards. Following the title victory, Drew engaged in a feud against Teddy Long and Kofi Kingston, with the latter looking to take the belt from him. Finally, at Over The Limit in May, 2010, Kingston beat McIntyre to win the title. Not long afterwards, Drew's big push stalled amidst personal problems also involving his ex-wife Tiffany/Taryn Terrell. The Intercontinental Title would be as high as he'd go in WWE, before being released in 2014. The belt should have launched him onto bigger and better things, but it was the beginning of the end.
