On the subject of SmackDown live specials, Social Media SmackDown was among the more noteworthy editions. No company was more obsessed with trending worldwide on Twitter or boasting about their Facebook followers than WWE was from 2011 to 2013, so it was only fitting they made an episode of SmackDown in March 2013 social media-themed. Although the show was taped on Tuesday as per usual, the commentary was live from WWE Studios, acknowledging trending topics and fan feedback regarding the show. It hardly did anything to add to the show, however, as it featured the same rematches from Raw as always and forgettable segments. Plus, most fans couldn't care less about what other people are saying about the show, so it was obviously going to be a bust. Thankfully, the experiment was a flop and WWE never attempted to do it again with SmackDown or any other show. Instead, they now have the "tweet crawler" at the bottom of the screen during Raw every Monday night.
