10 Totally Ineffective WWE Heel Runs
3. Giant Gonzalez
Giant Gonzalez' feud with The Undertaker was supposed to install him as wrestling's next big monster heel: instead, it turned him into a laughing stock, and resulted in two of the worst matches of 'Taker's career.
Their WrestleMania IX bout is a historically bad contest, but their SummerSlam '93 rematch might be even worse. Quite why WWE decided to re-book a match that stunk up their biggest show of the year is anyone's guess, but the second clash was even more of a plodder than the first, with 'Taker's inability to safely execute a Tombstone on the lumbering giant forcing a weak clothesline finish.
Gonzalez was released that October, but there was more to his failings than shoddy match quality. Height was the former El Gigante's positive trait, and while he was billed at an outrageous 8', this couldn't compensate for his complete inability to connect. It didn't help that he was forced to wear a full bodysuit with airbrushed muscles either, with his amateurish aesthetic turning him into an object of ridicule rather than fear.
A complete failure, even by the oft-derided New Generation era's lowly standards, Gonzalez' push and presentation were complete miscalculations from Vince McMahon and the creative team, and his name has since become a punchline.
