IMPACT Wrestling tends to go overboard when it comes to their weapons-based encounters. Moose and Eddie Edwards' Full Metal Mayhem match was no different.
These matches are at their best when drama is the key element. Here, spots weren't executed for the sake of having GIFable moments. They were spread out; walking and brawling was implemented between each, thus creating further anticipation when a table or ladder was set up. Eddie's sunset flip off a ladder was well set apart from Moose's Powerbomb through a table, for example. If it had been so soon after, it wouldn't have had the same impact.
Props, too, to Eddie for taping a chain around his knee, later countering a Spear by grabbing Moose's head, and kneeing him repeatedly. Ghoulish behaviour.
What was so good about this, though, is that W. Morrissey intervened, aiding Moose. Their partnership isn't based on them being a cohesive unit. They'll help each other in exchange for something. If Moose is still World Champion, there's a better chance of the former Big Cass getting a title opportunity.
The second Spear of the match ended Eddie Edwards' title aspirations. It was a fine ending to the bout, albeit a tad abrupt given the ghastly nature of some of the prior bumps.
Overall, though, it served as an apt beginning to Moose's championship defences. He looked like a thug here.
