6. Triple H, Batista Slowly Brawl
If you had low expectations for the No Holds Barred match between Triple H and Batista, you weren’t alone. Batista hadn’t competed in five years, while Hunter was recovering from a torn pec.
Both men tried to rise to the occasion, but the result was a slow bout that wasn’t bad, but just long. As expected, there were plenty of smoke and mirrors, as both men battered each other with stiff shots, using chairs, steps, sledgehammers, tables and even pliers. Triple H used the pliers to first “break” Batista’s fingers, and then ripped his nose ring out of his face.
They slammed each other on the announce tables, with Batista kicking out of a pedigree, and Triple H kicking out of a spear. In the end, it was Ric Flair coming to Hunter’s aid, handing him an extra sledgehammer to gain the upper hand and win.
The problem is that you can do this type of match if there’s an “epic” feel to it, but this wasn’t it. This match was decent, but not for the half-hour of PPV time it ate up fourth from the top on the card.
