10 Ways To Fix WWE's Universal Title
5. No Part-Timers, No Authority Figures
The Universal Title has only been around for a handful of months, but it's reputation has already been sullied by corporate involvement. Triple H’s interference effectively doomed Kevin Owens to a bad title reign, and as the threat of an imminent interference from The Game hung over KO’s every match with Seth Rollins, it took the gloss off what should have been a great series of matches.
WWE’s authority figures have been needless involved in the company’s title scenes for years, but keeping them away from the Universal Title would give it a great chance to succeed. Frankly, nobody wants to see Triple H fight for the belt again, or another corporate stooge champion in the vein of Seth Rollins’ 2015 WWE Title run. Leave the Universal Title to the wrestlers, and it’ll do just fine.
Similarly, WWE can’t afford a part-time Universal Champion at this point. Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar is the money feud right now, and there’s probably some temptation to inject the belt into their rivalry, but that’d be a mistake. At this point, the title must be front and centre of every show, not stashed away in a part-timer’s bag. The title loses all lustre when it’s only seen once a month, and for a belt that’s had such a disastrous start as the Universal Title, that’s unacceptable.
