A guaranteed way to create excitement on WWE television in the modern era is to debut one of the stars of NXT on the main roster. Some NXT performers arrive on the main roster with concrete storyline plans that elevate them directly into the upper echelons of the card, such as Kevin Owens moving immediately into a feud with John Cena. These performers should debut on Raw for maximum impact. However, in most cases, it wouldn't hurt to debut superstars on SmackDown in order to increase the audience for that show. In October of this year, NXT favourite Tyler Breeze made his first main roster appearance during a Miz TV segment on SmackDown, joining forces with Summer Rae to humiliate and attack Dolph Ziggler. It was one of the most exciting things to happen on SmackDown this year and gave NXT fans a reason to tune in to the Thursday night broadcast. Since it started airing on the WWE Network, NXT has become a brand comparable in terms of hype to the main WWE roster. Its stars are famous to the same people who tune in to watch WWE's flagship programmes every week. An NXT presence could be a key ingredient in making SmackDown important again.
