Many wrestling fans thought it was a given that Cody Rhodes would abandon the Stardust gimmick after the death of his father. When the 'American Dream' Dusty Rhodes passed on, there was ample opportunity to make Cody a more realistic character again, but thus far he has still been using the Stardust persona. Unfortunately, it's not really working. Cody Rhodes has been someone WWE have had high hopes for over the years. Way back in 2008, when he was placed in 'Legacy' alongside Randy Orton and Ted DiBiase Jr, the feeling was he'd be a main event star in the future. That hasn't happened, and Rhodes has had to settle for a number of different tag-team combinations instead. The most recent was alongside Goldust, which led to the birth of Stardust. By removing Rhodes from the glitzy character, WWE could give him a harder edge. There's a story to be told there, such as Cody revealing he wants to win the WWE Title and make his father proud. Becoming a sympathetic, yet steely babyface could really suit Rhodes, but he'd need to be booked strong over a sustained period of time. No more start/stop writing, it's hurting Cody Rhodes ability to connect with fans.
