10 WCW World Heavyweight Championship Challengers Nobody Remembers
10. The Barbarian - Halloween Havoc
Many moons before he was playing cards, supping cold ones in the back, and dealing out ass-whoopings alongside Bradshaw on WWE television, Ron Simmons reigned as the WCW World Champion in the early '90s. He was also the first African American star to hold said title.
And while his shocking title win against Vader and defences against the likes of Cactus Jack and Steve Williams are what most fans point to when recalling his run at the top, another less remembered powerhouse found himself going up against the eventual Farooq on a number of occasions around this time.
Not long after parting ways with WWE in 1992, The Barbarian was given a fairly strong push, forming an alliance with the aforementioned Jack, Tony Atlas, Jake Roberts and Butcher Reed. Before long, he was going one-on-one with the squad's bitter rival Simmons at Halloween Havoc '92, and despite failing to prise the belt away from the champ, he continued to war with him on the house circuit for a while after.
The monstrous Barbarian would also challenge Vader for the belt on a later episode of Main Event, but would never lift the prestigious title during his run in the company.
