10 Weirdest AEW Main Events Ever

10. Jon Moxley vs Joey Janela - Fyter Fest 2019

On the whole, AEW's pay-per-view main events have played it pretty safe, with no diversions from what one might expect. That is, with the exception of their second ever one.

Fyter Fest was technically closed out by The Elite versus The Lucha Brothers and Laredo Kid, because the actual final match was an Unsanctioned Lights Out clash. On one side, there was Jon Moxley, who had caused quite a commotion by debuting for the company at the inaugural Double or Nothing. His opponent, whilst a recognisable name, was significantly further down the pecking order.

Joey Janela had been an indie stalwart for years before AEW came along, specialising in hardcore wrestling. He was the natural choice to face Moxley in this brutal match, but whilst the former Shield member rocketed up the card after his win, Janela slowly slid down it.

By the time The Bad Boy left the company in 2022, he was a lower midcarder who hadn't been in a major storyline since... well, this one. The more time passes after this match, the stranger it seems that it actually happened.
