10 Weirdest WrestleMania Openers In History

4. Rick Martel vs. Koko B. Ware (WrestleMania VI)

There's a pattern that emerges when analysing the early WrestleMania supercards - most were built around one or two major matches, with the rest simply existing to fill air time. Whereas pretty much every match coming up at Wrestlemania 31 has a story behind it, the same can't really be said for some of the earlier events. Considering the SkyDome in Toronto erupted when Demolition beat The Colossal Connection of Andre The Giant and Haku in the second match, it's surprising that WWF officials didn't elect to put that one on first. It would have made for one of the greatest opening sights in 'Mania history, Ax and Smash becoming the first ever 3-time WWF Tag-Team Champions. Instead, Rick Martel and Koko B. Ware put on a short match which lasted a little under 4 minutes, and the crowd went mild. Worse yet, the arrogant heel Martel should have been given his comeuppance by the popular 'Birdman' on the grand stage, but he tapped out Koko with a Boston Crab, barely breaking a sweat.
