This is a contentious entry right off the bat. The Great Muta is living legend, achieving much success in New Japan Pro Wrestling, but also being one of the first Japanese stars to achieve international fame, wresting in the NWA and WCCW in the late 80s.

He's also responsible for something called The Muta Scale.

In December1992, The Great Muta faced off against Hiroshi Hase in what would become an infamous match.

Shortly after Hase attacks with Muta with a small thin pipe-like object, the camera cuts way while Muta blades. However, he blades way, waytoo deep and the blood starts pouring. The first time he shows his face, covered with the proverbial 'crimson mask', the crowd audibly recoils in horror.

The match gained a reputation of being the bloodiest match of all time, a record that has doubtlessly been eclipsed over time, but remainsnotorious for decades after. It's so infamous that violent wrestlingmatches are measured on something called the Muta Scale, 0.0 being no blood, 10.0 being the same amount of claret that Muta spilled in the above match.

A lot of people rate Muta as a great blader for this reason, but there's no reason to have quite this much blood flow during an athletic contest. Its infamy doesn't excuse it for being an example of blading excess, and a pretty terrible example to set for aspiring deathmatch wrestlers.
