10 Worst WWE United States Champions Ever

By Jamie Kennedy /

7. Santino Marella (2012)

Why is it arguably more insulting? Well, Santino Marella was actual gold as Intercontinental Champion back in 2008. His bold claims that he'd top The Honky Tonk Man's 454-day whopper were entertaining as all hell, and they gave Santino and his championship some purpose.

That purpose was solely missing from his US Title stretch.

167 days. That's how long Marella held the belt for in 2012. One hundred and sixty seven days. In close to five and a half months, he produced exactly nothing of note. In fact, Marella didn't even defend the United States prize on pay-per-view at all before losing it to Cesaro on the SummerSlam 2012 pre-show.

His only matches were another Kickoff win over The Miz before Extreme Rules, a non-title 'Tuxedo Match' against Ricardo Rodriguez at No Way Out and a spot in one of the MITB matches at the show of the same name. Marella as US Champion was crap.
