10 WrestleMania Main Events (That Happened Before WrestleMania)

1. Shawn Michaels Vs Stone Cold Steve Austin

In 1998, WWE was changing from the New Generation to the Attitude Era. At WrestleMania 14, its leaders would do battle over not only the WWE Championship but who would define WWE€™s future. At least that€™s what they told on screen. Behind the scenes, it was well known Austin was going to lead the company as Shawn suffered a career threatening back injury that January, in a casket match vs The Undertaker. Upon defeating Michaels, Stone Cold promptly went on to become the biggest draw in WWE history and never looked back. But in looking back, these guys had plenty of history that wasn€™t exploited or brought up during the time of their WrestleMania match. Previously, these two men wrestled in 1997 at King Of The Ring while they were the TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS! They were booked as reluctant partners who wanted to prove who was the better man. It was a face vs face contest that was fought to a double disqualification, but is remembered as a great match. Their partnership was short lived due to an injury to HBK that would put him out for 2 months. After this each man went on his own road to the main event of WrestleMania 14.
