10 Wrestlers Who Nearly Defected During The Monday Night Wars

By Scott Carlson /

10. Yokozuna

By the time the Monday Night Wars were in full swing, Yokozuna was on the downswing of his WWF career. But that doesn€™t mean that the former champion didn€™t have some value to the competitor. At that time, Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff would have been gleeful at poaching any former world champion, if only for bragging rights. With Yokozuna, the possibility of a rematch with Hulk Hogan loomed. The possible defection was described by former WCW star Konnan, who was friends with Yoko. He spoke about how the former champ loved K-Dogg€™s character in the nWo and the idea was to have Yokozuna €œcome in as a Samoan gangster and have my back.€ However, things never came to fruition, as Konnan said that Scott Hall tried to quickly facilitate a negotiation between Yoko and Bischoff, which offended Yokozuna. €œHe got offended and he never came in,€ Konnan said. It€™s a shame Yokozuna never got that one last chance to prove himself. Instead, he last appeared at 1999€™s horrific Heroes of Wrestling PPV before passing away a year later.
