Moreso than any other performer in wrestling history, what The Great Muta accomplished in 1989 in the NWA could be the most influential single-year of a career, ever. Keiji Muto was the first wrestler regularly seen on American television who blended lucha libre, Japanese "Strong Style" and a distinctly American flair for the dramatic into one truly enticing presentation. For the purposes of current-era WWE, if looking at NXT, the standard Muta set being reflected in everyone from Finn Balor to Sami Zayn (and more) is incredibly important. I mean, who doesn't to see the backstage pic of painted up Muta next to painted up Balor, right?
