10 Wrestlers Who Crossed Vince McMahon For Real
6. Jeff Jarrett
Shortly after Vince Russo’s departure for WCW in October 1999, Jeff Jarrett was scheduled to drop his Intercontinental Championship to Chyna at the No Mercy pay per view. Jarrett’s contract expired one day prior to the event and it is alleged that Jarrett held up Vince McMahon for as much as $300,000 to do the job on the way out. Chyna herself claimed that Jarrett had indeed demanded a huge pay out to drop the title in collusion with Russo, sentiments that have been echoed from other roster members of the time including Hardcore Holly.
Jarrett himself has contested ever holding McMahon up, instead claiming it was a negotiated deal to provide Jarrett with owed pay outs regarding pay per views and house shows he’d worked earlier that year. Had Jarrett’s departure been as cordial as Double J himself claims, one can’t help but wonder why Vince McMahon took the time to cruelly fire him for real on national television....
After that humiliating setback, Jarrett would co-found TNA in an attempt to grow some competition against WWE in a post-WCW world.
Things have warmed significantly between Jarrett and WWE in recent years with Jarrett now a member of the Hall of Fame and working behind the scenes. Time really does heal most wounds.
