One year after making his main roster debut as a predictable but crowd-pleasing #10 entrant in the 2017 Royal Rumble, Tye Dillinger was set to do the same last Sunday. Sadly, the former Gavin Spears never made it to the ring. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens ambushed him backstage, with the former taking his place in the match, and 'The Perfect 10' was once against swept under the rug.

The difference in crowd reactions from 2017 to 2018 is telling. Last year, Tye's music received one of the pops of the night, but 2018's response barely registered a decibel. This is entirely down to the way he has been handled. Dillinger was buried in the lower-midcard almost as soon as he arrived, and can now count himself lucky to even make TV, having worked just one televised bout since October. No wonder the people stopped caring about him...

The midcard is likely Dillinger's ceiling, but that's fine: anything would be better than his current role. The guy's more than talented enough to be a perennial United States Title contender, so why not let him loose?
