10 Wrestlers Who Narrowly Missed A WWE WrestleMania Main Event

3. Kevin Owens (WrestleMania 33)

On the subject of both Lesnar vs. Goldberg and this year’s main event, that brings us nicely to our next entry: Kevin Owens.

Owens had been enjoying a six-month run as Universal Champion until Goldberg dispatched him in just 22 seconds at the Fastlane PPV

Goldberg’s victory had been preceded by the impromptu arrival of Chris Jericho, whose music distracted Owens long enough to allow Goldberg to hit the Spear, as well as the Jackhammer, and score the pinfall to become the new Universal Champion.

That detail provided something of a silver lining, in that Owens at least had some kind of role at the year’s show—not to mention a crack at the United States title—when he went up against Jericho in search of revenge. As fine and dandy as that was, it wasn't quite the same as defending one of the World titles on the biggest stage of them all.
