This was a strange one, wasn't it? On March 24 2014 Christian defeated Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler and Sheamus to become the new #1 Contender to Big E. Langston's Intercontinental Championship. Captain Charisma suffered a mild concussion in that match however, and his title shot never happened. In fact, Christian never wrestled again.

On the very last RAW of that year Edge and Christian served as guest hosts of the show, during which Jerry 'The King' Lawler referred to Christian as being retired. Many were taken aback by this as the man himself hadn't said anything along those lines, but by October of 2015 his profile had been moved to the Alumni section of WWE's website.

In May 2016 Christian was released from his active wrestler contract, all but confirming his retirement when it came to WWE. As far as quiet retirements go, they don't come much quieter.
