Several years ago, Rob Van Dam explicitly stated that he was one of the best performers the wrestling world had ever seen. Such comments are fair game for grappling enthusiasts to say, but when the actual talent themselves come out and pat themselves on the pat so heavily, it does leave a bitter taste in the mouths of many. In fairness, perhaps people shouldn't be surprised, because that kind of attitude came across loudly and proudly during Van Dam's tenure with TNA. It looked for all the world like RVD couldn't really be bothered towards the end, and with talk ramping up that he was set to earn a part-time contract with WWE once more, his performances dwindled into apathy. Statements such as telling all who would listen that TNA were lucky to have him - and that he sometimes finds it hard to allow his opponents to keep up with him - don't endear a person to anyone. Nobody can deny that Rob Van Dam has been an incredible talent during his wrestling career, but there's absolutely no need to so blatantly tell everyone you're in love with yourself.
