Wrestling will never move on from the events of 1997's Survivor Series. Ever. 9 November '97 was one of the most culturally significant nights in industry history, which is why it keeps on cropping up almost 24 years later. It also fits the criteria here because someone other than Bret Hart tried to leave the WWF.
Mick Foley was so appalled by the way such a respected worker had been treated that he stormed out and promised not to show up on the next night's episode of Raw. It took some coaxing over the phone from Jim Ross to convince Foley that he didn't want to ruin his own career or ambitions for somebody else.
Disgusted by the way his employer had acted though, Foley stood firm until reconsidering his approach the day after Survivor Series. He eventually agreed to cease his mini-protest and show up to work. Right, that's it - no more 'Montreal'. That's a promise.
