10 Wrestlers Who Were ARRESTED In The Middle Of Major Storylines

5. Jack Swagger

In the build-up to WrestleMania 29, a surprising figure received a main event push. Jack Swagger hadn't been a top player in WWE for three years. Yet, he won an Elimination Chamber match to book a World Heavyweight Championship match at the biggest show of the year.

This was all because of his controversial 'We the People' gimmick. Designed to play off the right-wing media's obsession with immigration, Swagger and his manager Zeb Coulter was transformed into a pair of xenophobic nationalists. The gimmick had gained mainstream attraction and, given that Mexican star Alberto Del Rio was the World champion, Vince McMahon couldn't resist.

Alas, there was a twist in this story. On February 19th 2013 (just two days after his Elimination Chamber win), Swagger (real name Donald Hager) was arrested in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was charged with drink driving and for possession of marijuana, leading to the incident being dubbed 'Weed the People'.

Unsurprisingly, Swagger lost at WrestleMania and plummeted back down the card. Was this entirely down to his arrest? Or was it because he was a terrible wrestler? Who could possibly say?
