10 Wrestling Alliances You Completely Forgot Happened
Major talents combining and... barely leaving a mark.
There’s nothing quite like a good wrestling team. Gather up two or more superstars, give them a name, perhaps some synchronised gear and a combined finishing move, and often you’ll end up with something more than the sum of its parts.
Some wrestlers demonstrate such immense chemistry when together that you can’t think of one without thinking of the other. Arn Anderson and Ric Flair; Edge and Christian; Marty Jannetty and Shawn Michaels (crucially, that way round - you can certainly think of Michaels without Jannetty, and you’re welcome to do so).
Then there are those teams that leave you scratching your head.
A disparate selection of wrestlers for whom the bookers evidently had no other plans, shoved together and told to make something of this strange union. In due course, they split up, and we immediately forget it ever happened.
These performers are all solid names in the business, and yet the average fan will likely have no memory of them ever joining forces. That’s not to say that these teams weren’t good (though some of them decidedly aren’t). Simply that they slipped through the cracks of the greater wrestling consciousness.
10. Sami Zayn & Mojo Rawley
Time moves pretty fast in wrestling, and with so much being thrown at the wall it’s no surprise that fans can forget recent events pretty quickly. Even so, it doesn’t speak well for this angle that Sami Zayn’s brief appearance as Mojo Rawley’s manager can already be consigned to the “did he?” section of WWE history.
It was the heady days of 2019 and, as per, not a lot was going on with Mojo Rawley. He tangled with Kevin Owens in a backstage segment, and later in the show made the walk down to the ring with Zayn by his side.
Sami talked Mojo up a little, announced himself as the one time Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale’s winner, and… that was about it. We all pretended it hadn’t happened.
Perhaps Sami could have been the breath of fresh air Mojo sorely needed, but frankly things have worked out for the best. Zayn is benefiting from some of the best booking he’s had on the main roster. And Mojo Rawley?
He’s still gainfully employed by WWE.
