10 Wrestling Characters Which Just Aren’t Working Right Now

Maybe it's time for a change?

Professional wrestling is a world built on compelling characters.

You can book a showdown between two of the most physically gifted performers working today, but if the fans around the world don't care about the people involved then nobody is going to tune in and watch.

Yet, not every star is lucky enough to strike gold with a gimmick like 'The Rock' or 'The Doctor Of Thuganomics' early in their careers and some have to go through a variety of different personas in order to land on that dynamite character. Never forget, Becky Lynch once dressed in green and did a little Irish jig if she won a match in NXT. 'The Man' has come a long way.

However, the most important thing is for the individual or company to understand when something isn't working and adapt their presentation accordingly before it's too late.

In 2020, we are spoilt with arguably the most talented global pool of wrestling talent the planet has ever seen, yet that doesn't mean that every single character presented to us on weekly television is a sure-fire hit.

Some are far from it and need to be dumped straight in the bin in the very near future.

10. Mojo Rawley

Current Character: HYYYYYYYYYYPE!

There was a time when Mojo Rawley looked as though he was about to have a rocket strapped to his back in the wake of his Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal victory at 'Mania 33, but all that hope - or 'HYPE!' - soon evaporated and he spent the next two years wandering around the mid-card aimlessly.

WWE did try changing up Rawley's gimmick in 2019, yet his weird mirror promos and blue lightening/veins on his face were dropped after a few months. He's currently back to his 'HYPE!' life and it's honestly excruciating to watch Rawley resorting to childish physical comedy and flailing around like a brightly coloured fish out of water whenever he pops up on TV.

The 'HYPE!' must end.

Future Character: Enforcer

Vince McMahon seems to be forever high on Rawley so don't expect the company to give up on him any time soon.

It tends to be going well for the former American Football player until he opens his mouth and starts nonsensically screaming about being 'HYPED!' Perhaps making him a silent enforcer for someone like Baron Corbin could add some legitimacy to both himself and the resident 'King' of SmackDown.

At the very least, keep him and Gronk as far away from each other as possible.
