10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (May 5)
"Get These Hands": marketing genius or complete accident?
If it wasn't obvious when he returned to the WWE main roster last month looking like a Greek God, Drew McIntyre is a very different wrestler to the one who hammed it up as a phoney rockstar in 3MB four years ago.
There's a sense that McIntyre, having reinvented his career back home in Scotland with ICW and across the world on the independent scene, has grown from boy to man. Those strong promos he's cutting on Raw are from the heart too; when WWE terminated Drew's contract in 2014, it lit a fire in his belly that continues raging today.
This week, learn all about the lengths McIntyre was prepared to go to during his WWE sabbatical from one Diamond Dallas Page. That's not the only fact included here, and others look at talent as varied as Ariya Daivari, Lex Luger, Hiroki Sumi and Linda McMahon.
One of the best stories comes from current babyface sensation Braun Strowman. Ever wondered where that "Get These Hands" catchphrase Braun has popularised over the past few months came from? Then read on to find out...
10. Hiroki Sumi's Resemblance To Yokozuna Got Him A Rumble Spot
It's already been revealed that the "Saudi Prince" in charge of organising WWE's Greatest Royal Rumble show last week specifically asked for names like The Undertaker, Yokozuna and The Ultimate Warrior. As the latter two are deceased, he'd get only one of those stars in Jeddah.
WWE did have a quick solution to the Prince's request though. They brought in former sumo wrestling star Hiroki Sumi.
The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer reported this week that Sumi's cameo in the 50-man Rumble only happened because of his passing resemblance to Yoko. That's right, this was a one-off designed to placate Saudi royalty and make the Prince happy that WWE tried to make his ludicrous request happen as best they could.
Lord knows what might have happened had the Prince asked to see André The Giant stroll down the aisle last Friday...
