8. Kevin Thorn Turned Up To ECW In Gimmick
Mordecai was such a disaster for Kevin Fertig that he didn't think Vince McMahon would ever give him another shot in WWE. The 'White-Haired Undertaker' he played in 2004 flopped, and he'd heard several comments about his sub-par ring work. That's why the guy was so shocked when Tommy Dreamer called him up years later and said there was a spot for him on the new ECW roster.
Sci-Fi (SyFy), the new home of McMahon's warped vision for extreme, wanted a cast of aliens, monsters and quirky gimmicks. Fertig spotted opportunity, came up with the Kevin Thorn vampire gimmick and pitched it to management. They loved it, but Kev knew he'd have to blow them away if he wanted a guaranteed spot.
So, he went shopping and turned up in gimmick to the first TV tapings.
Thorn told Wrestlezone Radio that Vince was impressed by his gumption and said, "Oh that’s it, that’s it. OK, this works." He was the only one who showed up dressed as his character too, and it's why he got the gig on this revamped (ahem) ECW.
