2. Lex Luger Had Regrets Over The Way He Left The WWF
During the same interview as the Ric Flair entry earlier, Lex Luger spoke candidly to Jim Ross about his decision to leave the WWF in 1995. Luger's star had faded in the company, but he was still great friends with Vince McMahon. Looking to reignite his career, Lex agreed to join WCW and shockingly made an unannounced debut on the very first episode of Monday Nitro. Incredibly, Luger had taped matches for syndicated WWF programming that were still to air. McMahon considered Luger part of the WWF, so he was as stunned as anyone to see him stroll out on Nitro and confront Hulk Hogan in the middle of the ring. According to Ross, Vince was hurt over never being told of Luger's intentions to leave. In Lex's mind, that was a grave mistake on his part, and it's something he regrets to this day. Even at the time, Luger didn't know why he neglected to tell McMahon what was going on, instead simply going along with Eric Bischoff's assertions that the debut be kept secret. Luger is on speaking terms with Vince these days, but says it's something he wishes he could go back and 'do over'.
