1. Sgt. Slaughter Was Barred From Appearing At First 6 WrestleMania Cards
Working for the then-WWF from 1980-1984, Sgt. Slaughter was very much a patriotic babyface. Departing the company, Slaughter would ply his trade for the American Wrestling Association from 1985-1990, before Verne Gagne's legendary group would sadly fall on hard financial times. During that same period, Slaughter inked a deal with Hasbro for image rights to be used in the popular cartoon, 'G.I Joe'. Shockingly, Slaughter had been in talks for years before his eventual WWF return in late-1990 about coming back to the promotion. It's known that the man penned a letter to Vince McMahon, telling him how much he loved WrestleMania VI and was interested in being part of things. What's not common knowledge though, is that Slaughter was actually legally banned from WrestleMania before 1991. The aforementioned deal with toy makers, Hasbro stopped Sgt. Slaughter's talks with McMahon about appearing at 'Mania from coming to fruition. Slaughter had wanted to appear on a WrestleMania card before 'Mania VII in '91, but he was contractually blocked by his image deal with Hasbro. What other big wrestling facts did you learn this week?
