6. WWE Tried To Trademark Old WCW Names (Halloween Havoc And StarCade)
Every so often, a story leaks that revolves around the news that WWE are attempting to trademark any number of catchphrases or names, usually for merchandise use. This past week, news has surfaced that the promotion are looking to own the rights to several names more closely-associated with World Championship Wrestling. 'Halloween Havoc' was a series of Pay-Per-Views produced by WCW right up until the group went out of business in 2001, subsequently being bought over by Vince McMahon himself. The question is, if WWE are attempting to trademark the name, does that mean they're looking to run an event of the same title? Another name the company would like to own is reportedly 'StarCade', which is a pretty interesting spelling. Obviously, WCW promoted 'Starrcade' annually, their own answer to WrestleMania, but the different spelling of the name WWE have filed for is eye-opening. Surely, it couldn't be an oversight, the capitalised 'C' indicates something different.
