10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (April 15)
10. Dolph Ziggler Was Motivated By Horrible Gimmicks
Nowadays, Dolph Ziggler is regarded as one of the most reliable performers on the WWE roster. His big-bumping style makes him ideal when the company require a solid match, but there are frustrations over his inability to secure a sustained slot in the main event mix. That frustration has been prevalent for a long time.
Upon breaking onto the main roster in 2005, Ziggler played the role of Kerwin White's golf caddy. The horrendous White character was created for Chavo Guerrero, and was only short-lived. Next in line for Dolph was a run in The Spirit Squad, a group of OVW rookies cast as male cheerleaders.
Speaking to GetMeSports, Ziggler discussed the gimmicks handed to him before morphing into Dolph Ziggler. It's clear that he didn't think much of them at all, but says they actually acted as motivation for him to improve and catch the eye of upper management.
Since starting to use the Ziggler name in 2008, he has been considered an excellent in-ring talent, but is still fueled by the need to prove he can do more.
