6. A Car Accident Inspired Stone Cold's Iconic Theme

If there's any silver lining to be taken from Jim Johnston's WWE release, it's that the legendary music man can openly discuss his greatest compositions.

One of the most iconic was the chugging riff pinning down Steve Austin's theme. Knowing he needed to keep things dark, cold and muddy to suit the Stone Cold character, Johnston told Sports Illustrated how he listened to the riff endlessly before realising it was missing something.

Then, Jim's mind (bizarrely) turned to car accidents.

Johnston was trying to think of the most horrible thing imaginable, and he pictured the screaming violence of a car smash. That's the only reason why Austin ended up with sirens, shattered glass and other bangs and wallops in his track.

The sirens, contrary to what some may think, had nothing to do with the idea of Austin breaking the law or getting arrested. They were only shoved in so Johnston had something suitably dark to layer over his relentless guitar riff.
