8. Jerry Lawler Turned Heel Due To WWE Announcing Problem

Recently on Smackdown, Jerry 'The King' Lawler has been working more of a heel character behind the announce desk. For years, Lawler has been an almost-saccharine presence on WWE television, choosing to simply cheer on the babyfaces rather than anything else. This goes against his classic character of the 1990's, during which he worked effectively as a heel. Most long time fans will fondly remember his work alongside the likes of Vince McMahon and Jim Ross, those periods were the most fruitful of his commentary career. Indeed, Lawler hasn't worked as a heel in WWE for over a decade, so it's pretty cool to see him back doing so. According to the man himself, this was a change that needed to be made in order to stay relevant. In response to one fan on Twitter this week, Lawler stated that having 3 babyface announcers on Smackdown would have been a mistake. It seems he has figured out the issue with his former alliance alongside Michael Cole and JBL, there was too much of an emphasis on appearing non-biased. Fans on social media have voiced their approval over Lawler's recent work on the Thursday night show.
