10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Jan 13)
10. Curt Hawkins Took A Chance On Annoying Edge
Today, Curt Hawkins is largely filler on SmackDown Live. Rehired by the company following the brand split last Summer, Hawkins has rarely featured in a prominent role since returning. Things weren't always so grim for the guy, he was once a WWE Tag-Team Champion alongside Zack Ryder.
Previously working as The Major Brothers, Hawkins and Ryder knew their scope was limited on the main roster without something meaningful. Brainstorming, the duo came up with the idea of acting as henchmen to Edge. Then one of the top talents in WWE, Edge was considered the best wrestler in the world by both Curt and Zack.
Talking to Sports Illustrated, Hawkins said he and Ryder pitched the concept of 'Edgeheads' to WWE creative. After a while, they still hadn't heard anything. That's when Curt decided to take the bull by the horns and approach Edge himself.
Stopping the headliner in a corridor backstage, Hawkins told the 'Rated-R Superstar' all about his plans. Then and there, Edge agreed to help push the story through. There's a fair chance it wouldn't have happened had Hawkins not been so ballsy.
