10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Sept 16)

3. Daniel Bryan Didn't Have A Choice Regarding GM Role

It's something the man himself makes no bones about, Daniel Bryan would dearly love to wrestle inside a WWE ring again. Having been forced into retirement due to a spate of serious injury problems, Bryan has since taken on the role of SmackDown General Manager. Quite clearly, it's not a position that fully satisfies him.

Making matches and interacting with talent is one thing, but Bryan repeatedly states during interviews that wrestling is something he yearns to do once more. Talking to The Daily Progress, Daniel also elected to lift the lid on how his GM role came about. The story may surprise some.

Under contract to WWE, Bryan says he therefore must do pretty much whatever management ask of him. That includes becoming General Manager of the revamped SmackDown brand. According to the retired wrestler, he wasn't given much of a choice regarding the on screen gig, he was told rather than asked when the GM position was broached.

That's fascinating, because it suggests that Bryan would have been released had he not agreed to become SmackDown GM.
