In 2007, Vince McMahon was looking for ways to distance himself from appearing regularly on WWE television. Going further, the boss was ready to stop showing up altogether, feeling that his 'Mr. McMahon' character had been played out to the point of exhaustion. In fairness, Vince was probably right, but the way in which he was written off TV was a little extreme. Entering a limousine at the end of one episode of Monday Night Raw, the WWE Chairman was last seen closing the door of the car, before a spectacular array of explosions and fire engulfed the vehicle.WWE.com immediately put up a post bemoaning the death of McMahon, but the company were forced to retract on the segment following the very real tragedy involving Chris Benoit and his family. Appearing once more on Raw, McMahon stated that he was alive and well, and that the entire thing had been scripted. It was the smartest thing WWE could do, as booking someone to die in the wake of such a horrific incident would have been pretty crass.
