5. Gargano & Ciampa

One of the best long-term storylines in modern wrestling history is currently simmering away in NXT, where former tag partners Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa look set to star in one of 2018's most heated rivalries.

The DIY story has been masterful throughout. WWE did a great job in teasing Ciampa's dissatisfaction following their first attempt at becoming NXT Tag Champions, then again in the Cruiserweight Classic, before putting the team through the wringer in 2017. They lost their belts to The Authors Of Pain, but their bond was stronger than ever. DIY continued their course, never giving up on the gold, and starring in further title fights at TakeOver: Orlando and Chicago, with their split finally coming on May 20th.

In one of the year's most heartbreaking moments, Ciampa turned on his partner, laying him out on the stage after the night's main event. Gargano was immediately cast as the company's most sympathetic babyface, and Tommaso became public enemy number one. 'The Sicilian Psychopath' delivered an excellent follow-up promo at the next set of TV tapings, and while injury will likely keep him sidelined until March 2018, he'll have his targets locked on 'Johnny Wrestling' when he eventually returns.

Note perfect from start to finish, there's no way WWE don't knock it out of the park in 2017.
