Doink The Clown was not an intimidating wrestler to look at, but he was the most memorable just because this was a man wrestling in a clown costume. He started out making his in-ring debut in 1993. He became a face a few years later. When he was a heel, Doink was actually pretty good as an evil clown. You forgot that you were watching some dude in a clown costume because he knew how to upset the fans and get genuine heat. However, when they made him turn face he was such a lame character that it was completely ruined. As a face, Doink became too cheesy. They gave him a midget sidekick named Dink and it was their job to entertain the masses. All of a sudden, this evil guy was out there to play lame jokes on the heels. I was a teenager at the time. It was tough to watch. Doink was boring as a face. People didn't take him seriously in that role. That's a big reason why the character faded away. Plus, WWE went to more realistic characters in the late 1990s as the Attitude Era began, so that was part of it too.
