10 WWE Matches Guaranteed To Put A Smile On Your Face

2. Randy Savage Vs Ultimate Warrior (WrestleMania VII)

This is a bittersweet match for many reasons, but as an example of the WWE in its early ‘90s technicolour pomp, it takes some beating. Ultimate Warrior is a much-maligned wrestler, and for good reason - he’s generally not very good. Here, though, led by Randy Savage, he pulls out one of his finest performances on the big stage.

A career vs. career match, the Macho Man shows why he’s one of the greatest ever through his storytelling. Always a man on the edge, here he is the picture of desperation, unable to put the Warrior down and save his career.

He loses, and this is where things get truly heartwarming. His valet, Queen Sherri, berates and abuses him as he counts the lights - and who should make the save but Miss Elizabeth. Savage and Elizabeth’s reunion is an all-time great WrestleMania moment (tears are flowing in the crowd), even if the real-life story wasn’t nearly so sweet. Macho Man’s "retirement: was short even for a wrestler, but this would have been a glorious way to bow out.
