From @bakerspazing: Idea: Give Cesaro the IC belt and have him go unpinned for a year. Question: Why doesn't WWE do things like this anymore?
It's a great idea. I certainly wouldn't be against it. They've done long title reigns in recent years with CM Punk holding the WWE Title for 434 days and AJ Lee holding the Divas Title for nearly a year, but they don't do the unpinned thing. It seems as if nearly every episode of Raw has at least one of the champions losing a non-title match. That's their way of building people up. Then they wonder why nobody cares when a title changes hands. It's because we've already seen a champion lose non-title, so why would we be surprised when the title is on the line? A really long, dominant title reign by Cesaro or somebody else would do a lot for that wrestler as well as for the title. Will it happen? Probably not. WWE booking just isn't that creative these days.
