As simple a story as is possible in wrestling, Virgil's rise from bodyguard to standalone wrestler is wholly memorable. Finally having enough of the abuse from his employer, 'Million Dollar Man' Ted DiBiase, the former 'manservant' decided to go his own way in 1991. At WrestleMania VII, Virgil won by countout against DiBiase, but wanted to take the Million Dollar Belt away from him at SummerSlam. The stage was set, and fans responded in kind by treating Virgil like a genuine star. Such a run would be brief, but at least for a little while the man was taken seriously. Perhaps the only match fans really remember fondly from SummerSlam '91 is the Intercontinental Title bout between Bret Hart and Mr. Perfect. That was a classic, but DiBiase vs. Virgil had a lot to offer too. It isn't so much the actual wrestling that makes this one a hidden gem, it's more the story being told. Grappling fans love a good underdog story, and this was one of the best. DiBiase and Virgil played their roles to perfection, and the match was well-deserving of the near-15 minute duration.
