10 WWE Superstars Set For A Big Push Following WrestleMania 42
9. Royce Keys
Predicting an imminent push for this year's winner of WWE's annual 'cramming of superstars you totally forgot were still employed' match may not scream originality, but it is a bold stance to take.
Nobody has ever become a star because they won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Cesaro got paired with Paul Heyman for a spell, then got immediately shafted once Brock Lesnar returned. Baron Corbin remained in mid-card limbo forever. Bronson Reed and Carmelo Hayes both had delayed pushes, but neither quite surpassed the level they were already at. Mojo Rawley, the winner in 2017, was still in pre-show purgatory by the end of the year, while the runner-up Jinder Mahal became WWE Champion within weeks.
It isn't the star-making machine that WWE thinks it is.
Royce Keys must be the exception to the unwritten rule, not just for the Battle Royal's integrity, but for his own. A bulky, charismatic powerhouse, he reportedly requested to be kept off television following his Royal Rumble debut to give himself time to learn the WWE house style.
That level of willingness requires serious guts to take on your own accord, and it also earmarks him as someone with sincere adaptability. That's needed more than anything to succeed in a pressure cooker like WWE.
