After taking some time out after the birth of his first child and the expiration of his NXT contract, many thought the former DIY Man would end up in Jacksonville with Tony Khan. Come on...Vince McMahon was only going to book him as an annoying small guy, right?

When Triple H took over control of creative after Vince's shameful 'retirement' amid a slew of sexual misconduct allegations, Gargano returning to WWE looked like a no-brainer. 'The Game' had booked NXT around Gargano for years, instilling him as one of the main players and that would surely translate to his main roster run, especially after he was given a hero's return.

And then what? Triple H booked him as an annoying small guy.

Ludicrously keeping his attachment to an also returning Dexter Lumis, Gargano became an irritant in an already woeful feud between Lumis and The Miz, even going as far as to try and get a whistle over. It didn't work, and right now, Gargano feels like he's in Mustafa Ali territory as opposed to anyone of significance.

It wouldn't be hard to reheat him, though. A few wins leading up to the PLE and a stand out showing would elevate Gargano. Having him win the briefcase would instantly solidify him in the eyes of the fans who already know what he can do.
