Is there much point in discussing the WWE career of Shelton Benjamin at this point? The halcyon days of beating Triple H on RAW seem like light years ago now as Shelton plies his trade on the periphery, trading wins and losses with Cedric Alexander and Akira Tozawa on WWE Main Event. A coaching role cannot be too far away.

Professional wrestlers don’t just go quietly into the night. Shelton may only grace big-time television for Brock Lesnar-related chuckles (and the occasional stare and smile into the distance) but it remains a crime that his entrances are soundtracked by the depressingly generic tones of ‘Set It Off’. This is advert music. The sort of song that plays in the background as a diverse group of teenagers decides which smartphone to buy. It certainly doesn’t sound like the precursor to a fight.

Shelton Benjamin once had a great theme tune. You could say it set the ‘gold standard’ for theme tunes, but that might be a little too close to the nose. Even if he is resigned to losing to No Way Jose on a show that nobody watches, the former United States and Intercontinental Champion deserves to do it with a good song in tow.
