10 WWE Superstars Who Walked Away At Their Peak

By Scott Saunders /

3. Edge

Edge retired in 2011 after being informed of the severity of an injury to his neck. One bad bump could have spelled the end to not only his career, but ability to walk or even his life. That's a chance nobody should be taking. He spoke openly of the numbness in his arms during the final years of his career, but most WWE Superstars have a mentality of 'the show must go on' and Edge was no different. That was, until he was told bluntly that he was never to compete again. The Rated 'R' Superstar was World Heavyweight Champion at the time and right in the mix of a feud with Alberto Del Rio. His last televised match was against Del Rio at WrestleMania 27, though on the second Raw after the event and further testing, he announced that his time in the ring was up. It came as a massive shock amongst the wrestling community, but there are not many superstars who can say they've retired as the World Champion. Edge is one.
