10 WWE Tag Title Challengers After Extreme Rules
Can a current NXT duo be the next best team?
This Sunday in Chicago the WWE Tag Team Championships will be defended live on the WWE Network. During the pre-show of Extreme Rules, Big E and Kofi Kingston will represent The New Day as they challenge Tyson Kidd and Cesaro for their titles.
Regardless of who wins between these two teams there is a very thin pool of challengers that can be considered 'next in line.' The United States and Intercontinental Titles have received added value recently but the Tag Titles still seem to barely get much thought. It really is a shame that the belts don't mean more.
When really trying to analyze who could be the next best team to challenge the champions one has to get a little creative. The Usos are really the franchise of that division but Jey is out on injury. Who's left to step up?
There are a few teams on the roster that can be used, but not many. A few singles wrestlers were paired for the sake of creating possible challengers. NXT has also been dipped into to find the next pair of challengers.
Sorry, but Enzo & Cass were not considered for this since they are currently challenging for Blake & Murphy's NXT Tag Championships. They are one of the best acts on that show but they have those belts in their sights right now.
The following 10 teams are some of the best options to challenge the winner of this Sunday's pre-show bout...
10. The Ascension
The Ascension moved up from NXT a few short months ago in what seemed like a soon to be decent push in the tag team division. After cutting several promos on retired (and even deceased!) legendary wrestlers that were not received well, WWE balked on them.
Sadly, Konnor and Viktor are mostly on this list just because they exist. They are warm bodies that might serve as a transitional heel team for the babyface duo of Tyson Kidd and Cesaro to feud with until a more formidable team came along.
Given this opportunity, maybe a few subtle changes to The Ascension could be offered in hopes of getting a more valued crowd reaction. Even if booked solely for the sake of losing, WWE might luck out and accidentally find a way to make this team work.
